Trent Manning:
welcome to the reel turf techs podcast for the technician that wants to get reel follow along. As we talk to industry professionals and address hot topics that we all face along the way we’ll learn tips and tricks. I’m your host, Trent. Manning let’s have some Welcome to the real turf pegs podcast. Shoptalk series. Today we sat down at. The dunes. We. Chad works. We went over there after the Carolina, not out. And we also had Joe maria. Mike Rollins. And Michael Shelton. And we had so much fun recording this. I hope you enjoy so we’re sitting here at Chad shop at the dunes and we’re going to do a little impromptu podcast. And I don’t know why, or I don’t know what we’re going to talk about, or we’re going to talk about something. Uh, it’ll be fun.

Chad Kintzer:
Talk about

Trent Manning:
uh, Chad’s here and Joe and Michael, and then Dewayne is in the background here will probably hear him yelling. And at some point there you go.

Joe Moreira:
done.

Trent Manning:
That’s right. Yeah. Well, you don’t talk about

Chad Kintzer:
how you, like, how do you like T tech? So, so far, or the Carolyn

Trent Manning:
it’s been awesome and I don’t, I mean, just like we’ve been talking in the WhatsApp group and getting to meet everybody face to face has been a real pleasure. The education we had today, I thought it was great. I love hearing from the steel guys, always about, I went to the steel. Class at Eric Duncanson shop several times and that’s always fun. Those guys are on top of it. And I really wish we had steel in the south, like y’all do here. So in the south it’s run by steel, Southeast and steel Southeast is the only steel distributor that is privately owned and not owned by steel. And all y’all got up here is incredible because we don’t get any of the end-user customer support that y’all do.

Chad Kintzer:
Yeah. They do a good job.

Trent Manning:
Next question,

Chad Kintzer:
Mike, how have you liked

Michael Shelton:
Oh, it’s good to be back. because of COVID and stuff last year, we couldn’t come back. So, I mean, it was good to come back and meet all of you all. And, it’s just going to be back to the beach.

Chad Kintzer:
how was it when you met us over at, bombs? How go down?

Michael Shelton:
Good. Good. finally glad to share a beer or two with y’all. Well, it’s a F it’s actually a funny story because he was sitting at a table across from us. We were sitting by the food with my fat butt and

Joe Moreira:
a Trent goes, Hey, I think that’s Mike Shelton over there. I said, hold on. I’m going to send a message into WhatsApp group. Three seconds later, he comes walking over. I said to him, it

Chad Kintzer:
was

Trent Manning:
it was very cool. Yeah that was very cool.

Michael Shelton:
I was just over there. Intermingling, just talking. I mean, I, I didn’t even see y’all come in or anything.

Trent Manning:
Well, and we asked you, who was those people you were sitting with? Did you work with them? You’re like now I have no idea who they were. So

Michael Shelton:
I was just sitting over there talking just about random stuff or some random people.

Trent Manning:
And I think that’s the good thing about us all getting together and you meet new people and you make new friends. Chad’s been my personal tour guide here the whole time, telling me exactly where to turn, where to go.

Joe Moreira:
I didn’t have to tell you. You were just following me.

Trent Manning:
Well, yeah, but you wrote in the car with me. You’re like, turn here, turn there. Turn here.

Joe Moreira:
I felt like Garmin,

Trent Manning:
Yeah.

Chad Kintzer:
uh, and your personal, what, what would you call that advertisement? Marketing, marketing directors or something

Trent Manning:
Oh yeah. Yeah. He’s a Jasmine pimping the podcast really, really hard.

Joe Moreira:
translate very good at selling

Chad Kintzer:
herself.

Joe Moreira:
So I

Chad Kintzer:
try to help out

Joe Moreira:
a little bit.

Trent Manning:
Yeah. You do very well at

Joe Moreira:
I think I embarrassed him when I do it too sometimes. Cause you can see his face gets a little red, but

Trent Manning:
I get a little embarrassed, but that’s

Joe Moreira:
but you know what? He’s doing a great job with the whole thing. So I don’t have any problem telling as many people as I can.

Trent Manning:
well, and I think you’ve told every single person you met.

Joe Moreira:
every single

Trent Manning:
this has been great.

Joe Moreira:
I actually had Trent. Yeah. Trent Turner rebels, a little embarrassed today, too. Same thing. Cause he does a really good job with us, for the T tech. You know, he, he supports us unbelievably. So I was kinda stroking his feathers a little bit today too.

Chad Kintzer:
So T tech is a terrific is Mike Rollins, by the way, it’s the turf

Trent Manning:
equipment

Chad Kintzer:
technicians association. This is not Dewayne. This is Mike. it’s the turf equipment technicians association of the Carolinas. if you guys, you Carolina guys want to talk about how vital that association has been for you guys for this area. Uh, as far as like education goes, continuing education and things like that.

Joe Moreira:
for me, it’s mostly a north Caroline. So if they do classes and stuff, it’s a decent little dry for me. It’s three, four hours for me to go up to classes in North Carolina. They’re very, more active up that way than they are here in Myrtle beach. I actually have been trying to get, uh, my own chapter here in Myrtle beach for I’ve been down here seven years and I’ve been knocking on doors the whole entire time. And I just can’t seem to get them to bite. It’s a little frustrating to me. I text a whole bunch of them to go out and get some breakfast or dinner or whatever. And, you know, everybody was all about it and came down in time to it. And I drove from my house all the way down to barefoot, like half an hour. And I’m the only one that showed up.

Trent Manning:
Wow.

Joe Moreira:
Yeah So it gets, it gets kind of frustrating. And you know, just like for the conference, I texted like 23 people in a group chat told him, Hey man, you know, now’s the time let’s go. It’s common. We’re having it live. Everything’s going to be good. Let’s do it. And honestly, nobody saw.

Chad Kintzer:
Yeah, it’s kind of the same thing for me. just since I’m in the mountains and stuff, there’s not many young guys there. And T tech normally does it on the mid, you know, close to Charlotte area, more, more this east side of

Joe Moreira:
North Carolina instead of the mountains and stuff. So it is also a little bit of a drive and same thing. I’ve tried to get more guys involved in the mountains Mount, like our own little chapter in the mountains. Um, but I think after this year, I’m with now, we’ve got two guys from the mountain on the board. Um, and we’re both the same age. I think we’re gonna, we’re gonna hopefully start something and it’ll be pretty

Trent Manning:
y’all have here, I think is incredible.

Chad Kintzer:
It is, it is like, I, like I told you guys before, uh, for me coming up from Florida, I did not have a good experience in Florida. So coming up here and getting to know T TAC and getting to know this whole association and everything, man, they ma they, I thought, like, I always say, it’s I always make, they make me feel like I got problems, you know? Cause there’s, it just, everyone’s so nice and everything,

Joe Moreira:
we all know you have problems, buddy

Chad Kintzer:
yeah

Joe Moreira:
okay. all got our little devices. yeah, I mean, for me, I’ve been going to T TAC, I don’t know, at least seven years now. And I mean, it’s just the networking meeting people. And you know, like, I try to explain to these guys, anything you go to, if you pick up, even if you’ve been doing it, you know, I’ve been doing it for 20 plus years, you go, it’s like a nice little refresher on everything. You know what I mean? And to me, if you go and you pick up one thing, the whole entire trip was worth it. You know just like this. I mean, going into this, I mean, having you guys around, you know, getting to hang out and have a good time and Have fun. I mean, we, I mean, the classes were, I mean, they weren’t as good as they usually are this year because we were worried about COVID and stuff. but I mean, still it’s great. I mean, you go in, you get to refresh her on everything and it’s good. It’s really good.

Trent Manning:
Well, I’ve told this story several times, going down to the sip open house and John Patterson talking the information he was talking about, wasn’t new information, but it stuff you need to be reminded of. And I go back and I’m like, yeah, I need to start doing that. Or I need to start doing this. You know what I mean? It’s just awesome.

Joe Moreira:
Well, you get complacent. I mean, you do it for so long, so often every single day. And it’s just like, just like they were talking about in the steel today. I mean, you get 30 years of using the chain all you’re like, oh, it’s the next thing you know, you’re cut your leg off. It’s the same thing with what we do. I mean, you just, you get complacent and every now and then you need a little kick in the rear end and you’re like, yeah, that’s right. That’s why I do it because you do it automatically, but you forget why you do it. You know, the reasoning and everything else you have to do. It’s just, it’s just a good refresher for everything, you know? And plus, like I said, it’s just the fellowship. I mean, hanging out with you guys, it’s just,

Trent Manning:
It’s

Joe Moreira:
second to none. I mean, the guys you get to meet. Cause I mean, everybody for the most part is phenomenal. I mean, I come from Pennsylvania and up there, it was much different as far as the mechanics were up there. I mean, I remember going to those conferences and classes and I just like dread it. It was like, you go on all eight years complained and the whole entire time you’re there and it’s like, man, it’s your job. Just go do your job. That’s what it is. You know? And down here it’s a lot different than that’s why, like I like listened to the podcast. Cause I told you many times this is like-minded people that have the same exact thoughts that are. You know, and I don’t get that here at the beach because I just don’t know if they’re exactly that way or not, but, you know, that’s what I get out of it. I get, everybody feels like the same way I do about stuff passionate and care and everything.

Trent Manning:
When I was talking to Brian Harper today, when we’re walking around the trade show floor and just to hear his story and how the podcast is kind of gave him his second wind. I mean, that was incredible. Yeah that was so good Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. it’s really easy because especially if you’re working by yourself in a shop to think that you’re all alone and everybody is against you, not that that’s the case, but it kind of feels that way. And while I was talking to Joe earlier about it, nobody ever brings you good news

Joe Moreira:
here Right

Trent Manning:
getting bad news all day

Joe Moreira:
When I was just talking about it with somebody the other day, you know, we were, I was on the phone with one of the guys from the beach here and we were talking and I’m like, you know, he was talking about something. I forget what, I don’t even remember what it was, but I’m like, man, I said, you know what the problem is. I said, we’re so good at what we do. We make it look easy. So these guys, they come in to shop and they think we’re just sitting around and they’re doing nothing all day long because they come in and it’s all fixed. You know what I mean We have it all done. Lickety split, you know

Chad Kintzer:
to fix anything today?

Joe Moreira:
Are you going to do anything? You don’t know how to do nothing. You sit in the shop all day long.

Trent Manning:
That’s

Joe Moreira:
we do.

Chad Kintzer:
I thought it was really cool. Trent met, uh, Tim Krieger, the executive director of the GCSA here in the Carolinas. and Tim got up and did a little speech before the T TAC kind of opening kind of thing and said thank you to all the equipment managers. And, uh, you know, I think that was really cool for that side of, you know, the GCSA to come out and Tim to have your back and to say, Hey, if you guys need help with that, You know what I mean? I think Trent made a great point. When you said, you know, you guys kind of feel not alone, like, like you’re on your own and you’re kind of, you know, battling against the world for Tim to come out and say that. I think it would be really cool for more guys on that side of the industry to say that like, cause you guys need to hear it. Hey, we’ve got your back. Hey, if you need support, we can do this for you. We can do whatever because you guys do feel like you’re in the trenches alone. Um and I think that was really big for him to say that I said that to him after when he walked out, I was like, dude, that was so clutch because you guys as equipment managers and technicians, I think this is my personal opinion. You guys need to hear it. You know what I mean? My father was a mechanic. And so when I see you guys succeed not to get all psychoanalytical and stuff, but I kind of feel like I want to help you guys succeed. So to have Tim say something like that to have you guys like support, uh, to back you up like that, I think is monstrous because you guys do your battling and you said it like you don’t really get good news and you don’t really get a thank you. You get more of a like, Hey, this is broken. And so it kind of starts to pile up on you. So I thought it was really cool that Tim did that. And I think more people should do that for you guys to give you that support.

Trent Manning:
I think, I think it’s coming too. I mean, it’s, it’s in the works and I think we were getting the word out there and it’ll continue to get better

Joe Moreira:
well. And every year, I mean, I know you all, this is your first one, but every year they come down the one year I told you when we were sitting there, the president of the GCSA and. The whole thing came down, you know, and did the exact same speech. And you know, it’s nice to hear from those guys, but you want to hear it from your, your peers, your work or your boss, you know, and that’s one thing. And I was explaining to you guys before, like Steve Hamilton, my boss he’s top notch. I mean, he, he’s not one to be like, Hey man, great job, you know, or whatever. But it’s the little things that they do, you know? And I think a lot too, like with us, I mean, we’re looked down upon as like maybe macho men or whatever because of what we do. So, you know, I mean, sometimes it’s a little hard to tell us cause we, you know, they think they don’t have to, you know, which, I mean, I don’t, I don’t, I’m not one that needs to be every day. Hey man. Good job. You know, I mean, it’s like my son, I told my son, you know, my wife, he’s like, oh, he needs praise, praise. I’m like I said, man, if I needed that in my whole life, I said, I will be. S O L because you know, it’s not, I mean, growing up my dad, it was true. I’m telling you, I mean, you know, Mike, I mean, holding the flashlight and I be getting the

Chad Kintzer:
wrong spot.

Joe Moreira:
yeah. But it my dad, wasn’t it wasn’t in the wrong spot. I can’t FM say it’s like, ah, yeah, I remember, man. It was Fu

Chad Kintzer:
I think it’s cool. I mean, even if like subconsciously, right? If you guys don’t think you need it. I think just hearing that every once in a while, like Hey, place looks great. You’re like ball’s rolling really well or whatever it is, whatever little tiny comment. I think it goes a

Joe Moreira:
time It makes me feel good man

Chad Kintzer:
for sure

Joe Moreira:
it makes all the work worth it in the end. I mean, and you know, and like I said, Steve, he’s real good about it. He might not come out and say stuff, but he does little things, you know, I think I told you about it. I got a little bonus in my paycheck the one day, you know, for the barrels, I may, they put a little write-up in the Carolina’s magazine and Yano. I don’t care about all that stuff. It’s nice to see it. And you know, a bunch of my friends called me up and like, oh, I saw you were in the magazine. You know what I’m like, I felt like Trent, when I’m around, you know, I was like, oh, I said, yeah, what am I finances on the page? Yep. There, I took up the whole page all on my own.

Chad Kintzer:
Yeah. I also liked what Tim said, uh, over at T tech. You know, I think it’s really important that the members actually come out and see what, you know, what we’re doing, you know, it’s, it’s not only your super or, or your assistant. it’s also us, you know, and not only mechanics, but also the, just the general labor that you have, you know, what we do every day and what we have to get, you know, what we have to do to keep it going for what they’re there, you know what, they’re there for

Trent Manning:
A good conversation that I had with Tim is trying to get it out to golfers members and not just our supervisors or people we work with.

Chad Kintzer:
Yeah. And also like, like you were saying, you know, I think super show it differently. My super might not tell me all the time, you know, or it gives me praise all the time. But, uh, LA allowing me to come to these things, you know, not autumn I don’t pay a dime, you know, talk, talks away, pays everything, gas, food. I mean, I, I don’t, I don’t pay anything. They let me, they let me come out and, and he allows me to come out and, you know, I was showing you guys the pictures of the, of the brand new dump trailer that we got and it. It’s over a ditch now. Cause of, cause of the road, bro, uh, caved in stuff. So, you know, I got work to come to, but it doesn’t bother him. Cause I, I assume he knows I’m going to come back and I have to get, you know, fix whatever he

Trent Manning:
needs or she does,

Joe Moreira:
That’s what we do.

Michael Shelton:
Well, I think the times are changing. I mean, the we’re starting to get more recognition for what we do, but like Tim Krieger coming down and talking to us about, you know, about all that it’s. When I was an assistant superintendent, it’s like everybody prays to superintendents and, you know, being in school, it’s like, all right, well, the superintendents basically pull all, you know, they’re the guy that you need to go to and talk to and all that. But I think the times are changing now to where it’s like, yes, if the GCSA is starting to recognize us a little bit more as being texts, then maybe some of the superintendents will look at that since they’re the big organization, it kind of goes from the top down to the bottom. Um, I love to see our names on scorecards. You know, I mean, you get the superintendents, you get the assistant superintendents, you know, why not throw the M on there too? You know what I mean? I’ve always been a firm believer of that. I mean, the superintendent can be just as good, but he’s basically a member pleaser. We’re the ones setting up the mowers where the ones, I mean, if we left hell half a no-no.

Chad Kintzer:
isn’t there isn’t a blade of grass out there. Right. That a piece of equipment hasn’t gone over that you guys haven’t touched. Right. You know what I mean? So that’s the way, you know, if members could see it that way too. because it’s a very thankless, you know ungrateful job kind of thing. Uh, it’s not a sexy position so to speak um, so I think the fact that the gCSA is working a lot with trent and we’re trying to get all that stuff going, um to get that recognition. I think that’s a really great point, dude, the name on the scorecard gets it up there to, um, to where people can see all of that stuff and you get that recognition cause yeah, you’re touching everything out there that, that

Michael Shelton:
well, I mean that, and like the GCSA is coming out with a certified equipment manager position and all that. And it’s like, put that on the scorecard, you know, let the members know that look, they got a certified class, a superintendent. Well, you also have a clerk, you know, a certified equipment manager in the shop. You know, and, you know, it’s just, I see the times changing and what trends doing with this podcast. I mean, we’ve already what, 35 episodes already. So, I mean, it’s a good jump point. So then like if Tim Krieger gets in it and like pulling weeds does a podcast with you, then that, I mean, that’s a jump point. So then everybody listens that, you know, everybody that listens to pulling weeds, it’d be like, oh, all right, well, Trent was on this. So he’s got a podcast, let’s go listen to this. And it’s 35 equipment managers. That’s already done a podcast. So, I mean, that gets a good jump toward like some of these guys in the, you know, superintendents positions, then they start listening to our stories and then maybe they start going back down the line and actually appreciating their guy a little bit more.

Trent Manning:
Yeah Well

Chad Kintzer:
said you know, another thing that just kinda came up, um, talking about what we were talking about, the panel discussion today about getting new, you know, younger guys into doing this, doing, you know, the younger crowd is, is isn’t is in podcasts and like listening to stuff like that and going through all that stuff. So us doing this and talking to, you know, talking about what we do and what we we deal with and you know, all that stuff, it, it could end up helping out, you know, bringing more, oh, that’s, that’s a thing, you know, turf texts. What was, you know, what is that, you know?

Trent Manning:
So it

Chad Kintzer:
could bring, it could bring that to

Michael Shelton:
well, that’s what I like coming back to the show. Cause I mean, I went to where Georgetown, like, I mean, I was in the golf course management, you know, um, turf grass field. So coming back and talking to my old teachers and you know, when I first told them that I took over shop and I’m an equipment manager now they’re like, well, you went to school to be a superintendent. No. I went to school, learned about grass, you know, going to school and learning all of that stuff. Helped me be a better equipped. Um, so I think at the same time, it goes back to like the school level too, or Georgetown used to have a mechanics course that trained equipment managers, and then they just lost interest. So I think, you know, if they’re going, if they’re pushing so hard for assistance and superintendents, I mean, I know it’s kind of rough, but getting those classes put back into the curriculum to where, I mean a guy like me. I mean, if I had a choice, when I come to orange, Georgetown, look, you want to work on stuff or you want to go learn all this fancy stuff about grass. Well, I want to do both.

Chad Kintzer:
Yep Yeah. I, I th I’ve gone back again to the C the panel discussion. It’s I like what, um, who, I forgot who it was, what was his Uh, but talking about, um, not internships, but apprenticeships. I think that’s, that’s a big deal. I think that’s a, a good idea, you know, and who better to do the apprenticeships then the, the big three, you know, or, or whoever, you know, get, get more guys out there or, or make, uh, uh, you know, when I went to tech school, you, you did your engines class, you did your, you know, whatever, but there was always like an, an electric, uh, sorry, I’m, uh, an elective, um, side to it where, all right, maybe you can bring in like a turf elective, you know, like a real elective or something like that. Cause an engine is an engine, whether

Trent Manning:
in

Chad Kintzer:
a boat or, or, or car or whatever, but you learn the basics and you start from.

Michael Shelton:
Well, we just need to get the turf side into stuff like that. I mean, we’re a complete mystery to the automotive side. I mean, half the guys that come from automotive, I mean, they just happen to scroll through and see a post for a golf course mechanic and they’re like, oh, okay. That sounds pretty interesting. You know? And it changes their life.

Joe Moreira:
Let’s like I said, I mean, when I started in the industry, I came from automotive. I just, I had no idea. I said, I was talking to my friends over, I was building ladders for firetrucks. And I said, you know what? Some go work on the golf cars. How co how are, can it be to sharpen a couple of lawnmower bleeds? I’m like, really I mean, I had no idea. I mean, I did any of us have an idea when we started in, I mean, heck I started a long time ago, you know? And there was nothing. I mean, you’ll never hear anything about it, you know, it’s not, there’s not advertised. It’s not like, you know, diesel mechanics or auto mechanics or body mechanics. I mean, there’s no advertising for us, you know, like even on the, you know, the PGA championships at. All those TV channels. They talk about the superintendent. They talk about, you know, the head of agronomy.

Chad Kintzer:
that’s why I think to, to Michael Michael’s point is I think putting the equipment manager on, like, you know what I mean like if you see let’s say tour championship, right? You see Ralph couple’s name, you see all these guys names, Charlie’s name, but let’s throw, you know, Chris Lewis on there, right? Like this guy is an asset manager, he’s managing X amount of millions of dollars of equipment. You know, I’ve met guys that, yeah. You’re, you’re an asset manager for $200,000 worth of equipment. I’ve met guys that are managing $8 million worth of equipment. You know what I mean? So that’s what Tim said obviously today to at T tech is you guys are asset managers. You are very you’re incredibly vital to that golf course Patterson said it in the video that I made lucas Harvey, right? Atlanta athletic club. He said it, it was his sound bite that I put in the video where he’s like, I owe 50% of my success to John. You know I think, you know, as these guys can, you know start to maybe not admit it but like maybe work to see that you guys see how vital they are to your success Vice versa. You know what I mean? Yeah.

Joe Moreira:
Well I think they see it I think they understand

Chad Kintzer:
do Right

Joe Moreira:
It’s just, they don’t verbalize it It’s not like, yeah this is you know, they go do a podcast or, you know, uh, interview or something. They’re like, oh yeah, my thanks to my equipment manager, you know, you know, and that’s fine. I mean, I’m not looking for any of that stuff. I mean, it’s nice to hear it, but

Chad Kintzer:
yeah,

Michael Shelton:
yeah but we don’t have a sexy job. Right.

Joe Moreira:
We’re not sexy. Did

Chad Kintzer:
I don’t know I I

Joe Moreira:
Getting his hair dry?

Chad Kintzer:
I don’t know guys, but I make this look

Michael Shelton:
good,

Joe Moreira:
Wow I’m having a hard time watching everybody else. I keep looking over at Joe. I’m like ma’am, I’m like yeah, boy.

Chad Kintzer:
but I’m like, dude, that’s a really great point, man. You know what I mean? Like getting you guys on that scorecard, whether it’s a tournament or just a scorecard okay anything that put it out there for the members, you start, you start in one spot and let it kinda build itself up. Next thing you know the snowball is massive down at the bottom of the mountain So, um, I think that’s a really great point,

Joe Moreira:
and what are the same, I mean, just like I said earlier with Trent getting embarrassed when I was giving them all the praise and stuff for the podcast, I mean, we’re not one to put ourselves out there and, you know, want that kind of stuff. I mean, we kind of did stay back in the shadows and do our thing and, you know, appreciate what we do. We know what we do, you know? I mean, it is nice for other people to do it. That’s why I do it for Trent, because I know he’s that way, the same way I am. I’m just in the background. I don’t mind, you know, and it’s all right. If my boss wants to put it out there every now and then, or same thing like for Trent, you know, I put it out there for him. Cause I mean, what he’s doing for us. Unbelievable. Yeah. I mean, I know everybody that listened to it. I agree. 100%. I mean, everybody you talk to and you know, every single person, he knows every single person I talked to you, I comma Trek, Trent, come here. I say, Hey, this is a Trent man. He, I said, Hey man, say we give him a sticker. You got to listen to

Chad Kintzer:
I did it to him with Tim today. I was like, Hey man He’s like, oh, And then Krieger was like, oh man, you’re real turf techs. And he’s like, yeah, I’m pulling weeds. We’re just going to call each other by our podcast name. Yeah

Trent Manning:
That was good.

Chad Kintzer:
it was really cool man to get them together you know but like that it gives you guys a voice, you know what I mean? And

Joe Moreira:
I

Chad Kintzer:
I think it’s a great starting

Joe Moreira:
point for

Michael Shelton:
I mean, especially with the pull on weeds podcast, I mean, they’re, they’re big podcast, you know, like a lot of people listening to that podcast. Right. You know, and like I said, I mean, if, if pulling weeds can have trend on there, like that would just blow up the real startup reels,

Joe Moreira:
I have a feeling after this

Michael Shelton:
podcast

Joe Moreira:
up

Chad Kintzer:
I think so too I definitely

Trent Manning:
don’t, I mean, it’s been amazing to me. I mean, I know a lot of people already knew about. But there’s a lot of people that didn’t know about it. And yeah, just, I mean the last two days there’s been a lot of people. Well, just like, uh, the young guy that I was sitting across the table from him and now he’s bending the

Joe Moreira:
Yeah And and you know, like a kid, like yeah, exactly. That was, that was Greg the president, Greg Barnes, the president of T tech. Yeah. Is one of his guys, Luke, you know, we were sitting at lunch after golf yesterday, and that’s why this is so cool. Cause they’re not even mechanics. Like he’s like an apprentice kind of, and trend was sitting next to me and I’m like, Hey man, I said you knew he’s a young guy. I said, Hey man. I said, you need to listen to his podcast. Trent pulls out a sticker He’s like, really? He start downloaded it right there while we’re sitting there

Trent Manning:
deck

Joe Moreira:
And great. And Greg’s like Greg said, Hey, we were talking to him, grace, like, yeah, man. He’s like eight hours into it already. He’s like, she’s like doing questions in Japanese and stuff. And I’m like well,

Chad Kintzer:
I mean that was a David up at sugar mountain And then somebody else up in the middle of nowhere, Maine I told Trent about this I don’t think I’ve tweeted it out or anything but I went out and did demos and I show up, never met these people. I’m in the middle of nowhere. Right. And they’re like, oh man I was listening to that real turf tax podcast I listen to your episode I’m like I probably didn’t learn anything But the point was jokes aside, they’re listening. You know what I mean? In the middle of nowhere in North Carolina in the middle of nowhere in Maine, you know these people are listening and that’s the power of Twitter, you know and social media stuff spreads instantly. I’m in my hotel bed, right. Talking to Matthew ax and in Bahrain you know what I mean? Like it’s, it’s just too awesome. How easy it is to communicate and share all of this

Joe Moreira:
Oh And that, that WhatsApp, it’s just, that’s, that’s awesome. I mean, the minds that are in there, the stuff that you see, the ideas, the tips and everything, it’s just phenomenal. That’s what I was telling that little, the kid that’s been doing it for what, three months that was sitting next to you in the classes today. They like, we gave the sticker to I’m like, Hey man. I said, there’s no better way for you to learn how to do stuff. I said, starting listening to his podcast.

Chad Kintzer:
Oh, you can learn so

Joe Moreira:
Oh, and that’s what I said. I’m like, dude, you’re going to pick up so much stuff. said, it’s.

Trent Manning:
Another thing. I think all the salespeople out there that are selling equipment or selling parts and that kind of stuff. If they’re listening to podcasts, they at least get a better idea of who you are,

Joe Moreira:
what

Trent Manning:
looking for that kind of stuff. I think it’d be great

Joe Moreira:
Yeah Well most Well, most, of the parts, most of the guys that salesmen like Rankin and you know, those guys that come in here, they all pretty much know like their customers. I mean, they rank and whenever he comes in, I don’t know how about you guys when your salesman come down, but I know Rankin or Josh Newman from Toro when they show up here, usually the first place they come is in the shop and we’ll stand around and talk for, you know, 15, 20 minutes. And then they’ll go look for my boss. And that’s how that’s kind of how they do. And then, you know, usually they’ll bring you in a hat or whatever. Hey man, here you go. And I don’t wear hats. So I keep them for the guys over here. I get a nice pink one from steel today for the guys for a dunce cap.

Chad Kintzer:
bring me some Dunkin donuts I’m a melt in your hand bro.

Joe Moreira:
I don’t even need Dunkin donuts. Bring me a biscuit with some grape jelly and the chocolate milk.

Trent Manning:
I figured he was a gravy

Joe Moreira:
I mean if you look I’ll do biscuits and gravy,

Trent Manning:
it

Joe Moreira:
doesn’t matter. Have you seen me lately?

Chad Kintzer:
We do need to do a plug for the breakers breakfast at Papa’s. That was so good man that

Trent Manning:
Yeah The

Chad Kintzer:
packed every day

Trent Manning:
from breakers Really

Chad Kintzer:
Man

Joe Moreira:
this all trend kept talking

Chad Kintzer:
in my

Joe Moreira:
all week long,

Trent Manning:
That’s been good

Joe Moreira:
was good over there.

Trent Manning:
was man. It was

Chad Kintzer:
14 French toast this morning,

Trent Manning:
I’m going to have to try the French toast tomorrow I’m

Joe Moreira:
it’d be better You know what My favorite thing is, you buy those frozen French toast sticks, and they’re like real crispy.

Chad Kintzer:
the

Trent Manning:
best

Joe Moreira:
My kid used to eat them all the time. I was jealous because I was a fat ass then and I shouldn’t eat them. And I

Chad Kintzer:
gained 20 pounds this week. It’s been two days

Joe Moreira:
Well, between bums last night. Oh, you weren’t there?

Chad Kintzer:
No

Joe Moreira:
Yeah, that was crazy. That was a good night.

Chad Kintzer:
I will say a shameless plug for d when I got a text message, apparently while I was down here, Tim Krieger was asking for Dewayne to come up to the

Michael Shelton:
stage. Oh

Chad Kintzer:
Oh

Joe Moreira:
wait til

Michael Shelton:
here’s the podcast.

Joe Moreira:
He’s going to be like, oh great.

Trent Manning:
here

Chad Kintzer:
Dewayne

Michael Shelton:
does not need to go up

Chad Kintzer:
on a stage. right now.

Trent Manning:
Mark’s to fire you

Chad Kintzer:
I’m so fired RO so fired,

Joe Moreira:
Dude. I just liked that you bring this stuff along all the time.

Chad Kintzer:
Do you want ends always in the van dude

Joe Moreira:
the baby powder in the speaker

Chad Kintzer:
it’s in the van but it’s, I’m not used to having my van in the middle of a convention center Usually I can go back out and

Trent Manning:
grab it

Chad Kintzer:
I don’t have it with me.

Joe Moreira:
right It looked good in there.

Chad Kintzer:
did look good. I cleaned the crap out

Joe Moreira:
would have left the keys in and I was going to jump in and start

Chad Kintzer:
blowing trigger set It triggers. Like I tried to come in here and open the doors. There was nobody in here. I was going to get a self inside the van He’s like but You locked the door You Rascals I was like, yeah. Not letting any of you schmucks

Joe Moreira:
Yeah, me and tremor walking up. I’m like, dude, jumping into passenger’s line I’m jumping to the driver’s side. Let’s take off.

Chad Kintzer:
It’s been fun. man It’s been a ton of

Joe Moreira:
Oh yeah, man This show’s great.

Trent Manning:
Yeah. It’s been a lot a lot of fun.

Joe Moreira:
Like when I met you at east lake, that’s what I said. I said, man, you guys need to come down. I said, it’s just, it’s so, so good. I mean the guys, they always do such a good job with the classes,

Chad Kintzer:
honestly I mean, this thing is almost, I’ve only done one national show. It was just Orlando. I was like four days old mark brought me into the show. was four days into the company, into the industry and had just been with the company and he’s like, you’ll be fine. I’m like mark. I don’t even know what we’re selling. I don’t know what this is. He’s like, you’ll be fine. I didn’t know. I was not

Joe Moreira:
first of all, first of all, we all know you and you don’t need to know nothing about it. Your mouth is going to go like a Duck’s ass the whole entire night. Hey, guess what?

Chad Kintzer:
Oh man At the end of tonight I I grabbed some water and Tom banners at TSP was like, you’ve been talking a while tonight home Mike I’m like, dude, I don’t even I can’t feel my tongue I don’t even

Joe Moreira:
cotton, mouth

Chad Kintzer:
just cotton, mouth super and talking for four straight hours. Um, but I forgot. what oh, so I’ve only been on one national show, but, um, this is to the point where like I guess I learned this year or this week too, that one, that show is out west. The main show is out west Most guys will. I mean, I met a guy from, uh what there’s Ohio. There’s one, there was another one up in Chicago came down and they’re like, yeah, I’m not going out west. I’m just going to figure it out come down here. And this is close to a busy a huge show

Joe Moreira:
a big show And

Chad Kintzer:
in one year. You know what

Trent Manning:
at the time

Joe Moreira:
To be honest with you, we were sitting there talking where we were sitting at. There was a guy sitting minus, I honestly don’t know what his name was. He was wearing a Baroness shirt and he came all the way from Ohio. Yeah. I mean then you know, uh, what’s the guy’s name? He came from Virginia. Brian

Chad Kintzer:
Brian, Harper, Canada from Pendleton Yeah There’s a guy coming out from Colorado

Joe Moreira:
man It’s it’s awesome

Chad Kintzer:
tons a guy John Riley, shout out from Florida Florida

Joe Moreira:
You know what else? So I think it’s a lot because here at the beach in South Carolina, there’s not very many restrictions for anything. I mean, you know, California is going to be way different than this and it’s been that way here almost through the whole thing. I mean, I don’t really remember much of anything changing throughout the whole pandemic. I mean, we had like maybe two weeks where at my job, we had two weeks where we were no over time

Chad Kintzer:
and

Joe Moreira:
went into aerification and then that was all out the window It

Chad Kintzer:
oh yeah dude, Florida was it got busier, you know like everything shut down and

Joe Moreira:
Yeah

Chad Kintzer:
golf.

Joe Moreira:
So I think that’s why this has been real busy. I mean, it never really slowed down down here. I mean, they probably could have had the show last year. You know,

Chad Kintzer:
as few

Joe Moreira:
restrictions that they had here, you

Trent Manning:
know,

Chad Kintzer:
I think it’s great. Like this is my first show, but I think it’s awesome that the Carolinas GCSA does this and they should hopefully keep doing it

Joe Moreira:
Yeah I think didn’t they say today they were, I thought I heard somebody say they’re the largest per capita chapter in the United States. I’ve heard, I heard so many Kim Clark. I thought she, maybe she said that. Did she say that at dinner that night?

Chad Kintzer:
Uh, I don’t know. She was sitting

Joe Moreira:
don’t. For some reason I have that in my mind that somebody said that

Chad Kintzer:
Well so this is a this is a really dumb question, but because I’m not from the region, the Carolinas GCSA is that the only chapter are there chapters within the Carolinas GCSA

Joe Moreira:
The only,

Chad Kintzer:
Carolina’s GCSA yeah, it only covers the Carolyn because in Florida you have your Florida GCSA and then there are like seven different chapters within

Michael Shelton:
Florida. Th there are sub chapters so yeah

Chad Kintzer:
GCSA or GCSA

Joe Moreira:
of the Carolinas. So there’s chapters off of the Carolina’s GCSF Really?

Michael Shelton:
so like where I’m at in Columbia, it’s the Midlands. Okay. Yeah. That’s what we have.

Joe Moreira:
Oh you know what, because I registered for the Carolinas and GCSA that? I saw that on there. You’re right.

Michael Shelton:
The Carolinas covers, uh, North Carolina and South Carolina, and then South Carolina has, I mean, don’t hold me to it. Cause it’s been a while, but I think there’s like four or five subtractors and then North Carolina has about four or five, two.

Chad Kintzer:
Okay Yeah. Florida has seven So that’s why I figured they probably had the little sub chapters makes it easier to get together to do some like continuing education stuff like that.

Michael Shelton:
Yeah. But it doesn’t affect any of the T tax stuff, you know, it’s even mainly for the assistance and superintendents and stuff like that.

Chad Kintzer:
And T tack is just one big

Joe Moreira:
well they have sub chapters as well

Chad Kintzer:
There are some chapters,

Joe Moreira:
that’s the group up in Wilmington. Those are the guys that are really active, you know, and they have their own little chapter. They get together every now and

Chad Kintzer:
then Yeah

Joe Moreira:
up there by themselves.

Chad Kintzer:
I mean just, uh, you know, for the people listening to then in the Carolinas. I mean, what’s the process for them to sign up, to join T tech as an equipment manager,

Joe Moreira:
go on the Caroline is gcsa.org website and they’ll take you to it or you go on

Chad Kintzer:
can go to dot org,

Joe Moreira:
yeah, we have our own website, but there’s not last time I was on it. There wasn’t very much information on it, but that’s Luke. Guy that was eight hours into the podcast. He’s the one that’s doing the website for us. So hopefully you’ll listen to the podcast and get his button gear Get his button. Come on, Luke, come on, Lucas. You can’t hit a ball straight, but I played golf with him in the tournament for the T tack. It was birdie fun. He can’t hit a ball strength

Chad Kintzer:
Driver ends up four holes to the right.

Joe Moreira:
I can’t talk too much. A pinched nerve. So I only hit like maybe 40 balls total the whole day. So him and Tate, the other guy was a ride. And w I rode with, they were playing the whole entire time and I’m just sitting in there popping pain pills. And they’re up there. They’re up there putting hitting four shots two shots each

Chad Kintzer:
over there. Pulling pain pills out of a Skittles

Joe Moreira:
Oh yeah well yeah, it was so funny Cause I pulled out a pain pill took a pain pill and I hit a shot and it was a best shot to hit all day and take goes, Hey, uh you think there’s any way you can take a pill before every shot

Trent Manning:
Oh wow

Chad Kintzer:
Chad’s foaming at the mouth

Trent Manning:
Yeah Yeah

Joe Moreira:
drilling a little?

Trent Manning:
Well that back to Joanne and T tech,

Chad Kintzer:
yeah

Trent Manning:
case, you just call the Carolina association

Chad Kintzer:
or

Trent Manning:
they’ll get you set up

Chad Kintzer:
hit, hit one of us up

Trent Manning:
Well yeah yep

Chad Kintzer:
anybody, you know, follows us and would lead you in

Trent Manning:
how much it is?

Chad Kintzer:
40

Trent Manning:
$45

Chad Kintzer:
And your your first time at the main show is free,

Trent Manning:
right I take advantage of that this year So I’m a T TAC member. Now,

Joe Moreira:
Yep Here it is. I’m looking at it right now. So senior tech is $45. That’s a manager with more than one year experience. First year tech is 25, the associate member, which is like the guys that do the training and stuff. Hm. Oh. That’s like, if you’re not in the golf industry, like if you work, I don’t even a, that’s 35 and it’s all that’s on there that the membership application is right on the website. T tech.org, R yeah. T tech.org. So they must have

Michael Shelton:
I mean, either way. I mean, if you’re interested in it, I mean, there’s the free first-time thing

Joe Moreira:
That’s for the show.

Michael Shelton:
Yeah. I mean, but even still though, I mean, if you’re interested in, you’ve never been, just sign up for it, come for free and check it out. If you like it join one of the

Joe Moreira:
one of the nice things. Like I took advantage of like with the GCSA testing for the texts, like. Two tests. I mean, it kind of like only like really take two. I wanted to take more, but I took two tests and it cost me a penny. Um, GCSA when you come and do it at the conference, they cover it. The Carolinas GCSA pays for it. So that was 40 bucks each. So that was 80 bucks

Trent Manning:
Plus like,

Joe Moreira:
I didn’t pay anything for the books. They sent me the, both the study guides. I got them like a week or two before,

Chad Kintzer:
Dumb question is this for the AMCP stuff.

Trent Manning:
it’s

Joe Moreira:
So it’s normally 40 bucks

Chad Kintzer:
So that’s a good segue was I was talking to somebody. You didn’t need to take that test, right? You didn’t need to be EMCP certified I’ve had a couple of guys say like how are you to take this? I’ve been doing this 30 years. I’m going to pass everyone I’m like, exactly. So to Michael’s point is I’ll tell him, like, you should still take it. You should still get certified because it gives you that clout. Right. It gives you that

Joe Moreira:
leverage

Chad Kintzer:
right. It gives you leverage Exactly.

Joe Moreira:
At the end of the year, everybody gets a review. You go to that review, you know, you don’t get a raised or you’re not getting paid. What you think you should get paid. You go to your boss, you say, Hey, look, I just took these certifications. I passed, you know, four tests this year, you know, I’m on my way to, you know, certification for a mechanic

Chad Kintzer:
in

Joe Moreira:
the golf course for the equipment manager. You know, I mean, right there, you

Chad Kintzer:
um two stroke on four struck I’m an electrical hydraulics and pneumatics I’m everything I have all of this certification

Joe Moreira:
I did all these classes. Right

Chad Kintzer:
what I told him. I was like, you can put this on your resume You can do all kinds of things with this,

Joe Moreira:
right

Chad Kintzer:
that you couldn’t before

Joe Moreira:
And the nice part is if you go in and they don’t do anything for you, I promise you there’s a ton of superintendents out there that would appreciate somebody that goes and does exactly what they need to do to better themselves. I mean, and that’s exactly what this is all about, what we do here. It’s about bettering ourselves, being the best that we can be getting together. You know, you figure stuff out when you’re all together, just sitting around talking, you know, I mean, and we did a lot of joking around and stuff, but I mean, it was business. We were joking and. Everything. And you know what I mean? Everything you talk about, it helps you figure stuff out. I mean, it’s just, it does natural conversation. It just brings out more thoughts.

Chad Kintzer:
Yeah. And then there’s another one also coming out. Right. I believe the, the, the other certification. Oh yeah. The official certification.

Trent Manning:
see Tim is what it’s called Yeah. And it’ll be certified turf equipment manager.

Joe Moreira:
yeah that’s coming out the end of the year Right. Eric was telling me he

Trent Manning:
ho hopefully by the end of the year Well actually I think I’ve seen some that’s at spring. when the other thing about taking the test. So I took the test just to support the industry because where I’m at, I’ll probably retire there more than likely, unless something happens to our director and everybody knows this I’m there. As long as the director’s there. Um, I love working with him. He’s a great guy, but, uh, so I don’t need any more certification or any of that stuff. just, I just want to support the industry.

Joe Moreira:
sure enough. I’m the same. Like I love it where I’m at. Like I said my boss Steve he’s like, I never had any complaints about them. I said it all week. I say it all the time. I tell them often I stop them and say, Hey see you, man. I said, thanks man. I said, I really appreciate being here, you know, you know and he always says, well, good, man. I’m glad you’re happy. He goes, this is what we want.

Trent Manning:
Right

Joe Moreira:
You know, and I try, that’s what I try to do. I try to just come in to work and be happy. And you know what I mean? Right Behind you is a board with all kinds of stuff that I need to fix when I come back after the conference and was like, Hmm, okay. And what are you going to do is still going to be there.

Michael Shelton:
Well, I mean the certifications and all that, and the test that we take, I’m halfway done with level one and just taking those tests was a confidence booster for me. I mean, we do this stuff all day every day. And I mean, even now, I’m not even confident on half the stuff that I do, but if I go in and I take a test and then I got this piece of paper that says, Hey, look, I’m certified in. Well, that’s confident booster, you know, I mean, if a guy’s 30 years in and he knows all this stuff, take test,

Joe Moreira:
It don’t matter how you dress me, everybody. We were just talking about it today. We were talking about, or yesterday, maybe he said he, they bought that engineer. He did. He’s like, man, I said, we were sitting in a bums, I think. And I said, yeah, man, you get that thing together. And it’s like, the first time it starts up, you’re like, Ooh, is it going to stay around? And thank God it started now is it going to keep running? You know what I mean? That’s just, I mean, you just, it’s always in the back of your mind it’s always in the back of your mind when you’re doing something. Even like, if you’re checking something, I mean, you might be knowing that that’s what it is, but I mean, still if you’re paying, you know, a thousand dollars for a valve or something, I mean, there’s always that little in the back of your mind man is that really what it is? Am I spending a thousand bucks on the right

Trent Manning:
thing? It’s just

Joe Moreira:
like, God I don’t want to be wrong. This is not the time for me to be wrong.

Trent Manning:
Well, yeah. I mean, I’d double check Triple check quadruple check

Joe Moreira:
well seeing the good part for you right Well sure

Trent Manning:
like that

Joe Moreira:
four guys over there too. You know what I mean, guys like me and you know, Joe and us, we were one man in the shop and there’s nobody in. You know, we’re going to say, Hey man, come out here and look at it, tell me what you think. You know, you guys you got, you can put your heads together. That’s what was nice when I was over at barefoot, you know, when I worked over there, there was three or four of us, you know, in the shop, two or three of us in the shop, you know? And I could be like, Hey man, you know, they would look at it and they would come and tell me there was something wrong. And I’d say, I’d go down the list. You know, like my old assistant Ruben, he’d be, Hey man, this cart needs a starter. I’m like, all right. I said, how do you know when he’s a starter? Well, don’t run.

Trent Manning:
don’t start

Joe Moreira:
don’t go I’m like I said, okay. I said, is it getting power model? No, I said, we’ll go check it. Okay. You know, and that’s here, you know where I’m at now? I don’t have anybody it’s me, you know? And that’s, I mean, I talked to a lot of people and that’s a lot of pressure, you know? I mean, when you’re only the only person they’re relying on to repair everything on the property, I mean, there’s nobody else to fall back on.

Chad Kintzer:
dude And that’s the thing too is I said, I think in the episode I did with Trent and I say it a bunch So I feel like I’m a broken record but that now imagine you’re out in the mornings and your Mon fairways every single day or greens or your block moan, or you’re working in bunkers And then the afternoon you come back in at 1130 you eat your lunch and then you’re the mechanic until 2

Joe Moreira:
did it right.

Michael Shelton:
That’s what I did

Joe Moreira:
when I was in Pennsylvania

Michael Shelton:
many places I’ve seen her do it

Chad Kintzer:
that

Joe Moreira:
Yeah that’s what I did in Pennsylvania. The whole entire, probably, I don’t know, six years I was there the first six years. I guarantee you, I mowed greens

Michael Shelton:
almost every single

Joe Moreira:
day. And that’s what I did in the morning. but yeah, that’s when I, when I was up there, man, that’s what I did every day. I mean, I would go whether it was walk, mowing greens or cutting cups or whatever. I mean, it was a low budget, small private club, and it was a great course and beautiful for the area. But I mean, that’s just what it was. We only had maybe nine, 12 guys tops, you know, we would walk teas You know, walk, mow greens. We would, you know mow fairways, you know, and it’s just, you don’t have enough guys to do all this stuff. So the mechanics

Chad Kintzer:
you’re tired and now you’re working on really important equipment that if it goes down the

Joe Moreira:
look at me my finance goes out and walk. Mo’s seven greens. I come back in and I’m telling you why all week long, Trent

Chad Kintzer:
we’re

Joe Moreira:
walking around over at the show and I’m sweating like a big, I’m like, oh my God man

Chad Kintzer:
it’s air conditioned

Joe Moreira:
dude how bad was I sweating? I was bad. It’s bad. And I mean, this is the way I’ve been my whole life. I was in the military fricking best shape of my life. And that’s the same exact thing in Texas. I was down there just sweating. And that’s the way I would come back in from the shop Feet soaked, completely soaked from head to toe, you know, and I’ll be in the shop for the afternoon, you know trying to catch my breath for the next four hours. You know? I mean, I wasn’t this fat back then, but clothes and, uh, you know, that’s that’s it’s hard, man. It’s I mean, you know, At barefoot, it was different. I didn’t have to go on the golf course ever. Right. You know, I was never on the golf course unless I wanted to go out and try them on them.

Chad Kintzer:
Yeah.

Joe Moreira:
Same thing here. I mean, I don’t have to go on a golf course. I mean, every now and then I went and walked mowed greens. I was talking smack one day at the bar with bar with the assistant.

Chad Kintzer:
lasers

Joe Moreira:
Oh no man Because you know how it is that you guys know, they always talk shit. They don’t think we do nothing like, oh, you’re gonna, you gonna, all you do is sit in the shop. You never walk motor green in your life I said, I’ll tell you what I’ll more greens, more greens in each one of you out here

Chad Kintzer:
Listen here Young blood. I

Joe Moreira:
ain’t moved to greens in 10 years. And the assistant Josh, he’s like, I’m going to put you on moon greens on Monday I’m like, okay, I’m in

Chad Kintzer:
you can’t, you can’t tell him Chad’s at home He’s got his feet up.

Joe Moreira:
He’s like right Well I’ll tell you what it don’t matter Listen man, you don’t forget. I frigging I mowed seven greens that day and he always he was talking smack cause we had our old assistant. Uh, he was from PA, he moved down to Florida. He’s like, oh, he’s Zaner Alexander. He’s the fastest greens mower we got. I said, I’m telling you I’m Mo faster, more greens. Yeah, I did. He mowed six, I’m owed seven

Chad Kintzer:
I love it, man. That’s awesome

Joe Moreira:
and you know what it is like I tried to tell the guys all the time and I don’t, I’m sure, you know, you used to do on the golf course stuff too. Right? Trent. And I mean, it’s all about how efficient you are. The same thing with like working in the shop. You know what I mean? Like I try to find the most most efficient possible way we were talking to about with pre cop. When we were sitting at lunch over at the thing we’re sitting there I got a cheese steak and French fries. I’m sitting there. I catch up on my French fries. I’m eating them away. Friends, sit in there a little, I know he’s fricking peeping at me eating my. He goes, that’s pretty cool, man. I said, what’s that? He goes, you eat all your French fries for cheese steak.

Chad Kintzer:
Oh I did the same thing dude Yeah

Joe Moreira:
I’m like well you said, you know, it was kind of weird how I do stuff. I said, I ate my French fries Not that I don’t like them, but I like the cheese steak better So I want that

Chad Kintzer:
it for last Yeah the day.

Joe Moreira:
You

Chad Kintzer:
want a cheese steak pallet for the rest of

Joe Moreira:
the day. And that’s just the same thing in the shop. I do some weird stuff in the. Then I just, it’s just So you exactly

Chad Kintzer:
your own efficiency And

Joe Moreira:
like today Joe was trying to grab a mower off a bucket off the thing. Well, what I do is I pull the buckets off. I turned around and I sat them down Like that, grabbed the center one, put it in the middle. When I put them

Chad Kintzer:
Joe thanks for the help But let me

Joe Moreira:
I got a joke let it go, let it go. He dropped it, dented the fricking bucket And I’m like

Chad Kintzer:
whatever I

Joe Moreira:
he, then he went outside and sat down and he was like, ah, he’s too crazy.

Chad Kintzer:
Michael has a good point man, about to kind of circle back to the certification stuff, right? It kind of gives you if you’re a newer guy in the industry or whomever is listening and you’re, you’re thinking about taking it and you’re not sure you can pass it, give it a shot You you fail one. You can take it a second time before you have to pay for it again Um, and that’ll give you that Let’s say Holy crap. I passed it. You know then you can have that confidence that you can have that confidence in that, in your ability to do that. But I think Mike, that’s a great point, man You know what I mean? Like I hadn’t thought about it like that. It’s a big confidence booster Let’s say you barely passed by the skin of your teeth, but you can still be like, Hey, you know what? I think I know more than I thought I did. Um, and now you can go back into that shop and have a little more confidence That’s something I hadn’t thought

Joe Moreira:
what’s even better join T TAC, come to the conference. You can take it for free. It don’t cost you nothing. And then you still get two chances

Chad Kintzer:
dude. I didn’t know they

Joe Moreira:
and you get two chances at it still. Yeah. And you know what, honestly, I mean, Eric’s there the whole time. Walking around, you know, and he I mean, he doesn’t tell you anything, but I mean, he doesn’t let you hang him.

Trent Manning:
there I mean?

Joe Moreira:
He’s he he’s there, you know? So it’s, it’s really good. Eric’s a good dude. Um, and it’s for them paying for the stuff is, I mean, that’s just

Chad Kintzer:
awesome

Joe Moreira:
I mean, that’s, again, that’s one of the things that they do to help us out,

Trent Manning:
you

Joe Moreira:
the Carolinas GCSA, that’s what they do to help us out. And it’s

Chad Kintzer:
that’s huge. I’m not saying, I’m not saying this is, it’s a super overly expensive thing but that’s a lot of testing you have to

Trent Manning:
take starts to

Chad Kintzer:
add up. If you’re not a member that starts to add up

Joe Moreira:
but think about it Even the guys that are at a little golf course, you know, like a little mom and pop that has a tiny little budget, You know, and say they want to go to the conference or they want to do the testing, you know, go to the conference If you go to the first time you go for free it’ll cost you Like if you go, if you go to the conference and you go off, you go to the Carolina’s night out, which was. And you go to all the classes and the conference. I think I figured it. I think it was like 135 bucks. That’s for everything. And

Trent Manning:
you can

Joe Moreira:
take your tests for free.

Chad Kintzer:
Yup Yup. Yup. And

Joe Moreira:
all you have to do is worry about paying to get here and lodging.

Chad Kintzer:
And I think for that pricing to just, let’s say worst case scenario of you meet one or two people you hit it off and you get to know them. Next thing you know, you’re sharing information back and forth. Hey, we both run Toro Hey we both have Whatever it may be, then you can start sharing that alone is worth it. You know what I

Trent Manning:
For sure On top of that,

Chad Kintzer:
getting your continuing education. You’re taking classes, you’re getting certified, you’re having a ton of fun.

Joe Moreira:
You’re going to meet people. You’re going to meet people and it’s going to be fun You’re going to meet most of the guys that come to the team, especially the guys that are like with me on the board, like Joe, you know, Greg and, you know, trends here. All of them are really good guys. I mean, they they’ll do anything for you. I told Trent I text. And called him before he came down. Cause you know, I didn’t know if his club was going to pay for him to come over or not. I didn’t know why he was coming, you know? And I’m like I say, Hey man, is your club paying for your room? He’s like, oh yeah. Yeah. I’m like, okay, good. I told him dad, I said, well, I asked him I was going to offer him. I have two spare bedrooms I’m like Hey man, you could’ve stayed with me, man. It’s no big deal. You know And that’s just that’s what we do, dude

Chad Kintzer:
Joe said it too. And the Carolinas, sorry to interrupt But to your point Joe said that in the episode with Trent for Joe’s episode was about how the Carolinas compared to Florida, obviously I’m in Florida. But compared to the dude. Oh every time I’ve driven through the Carolinas man, it’s the nicest people, most welcoming people. I think I’ve ever met in my entire life Other than you Canadians up there But, uh, dude, the Carolinas have been awesome

Joe Moreira:
man. Listen if I can go snowboard

Chad Kintzer:
let’s say I’m in bro The guy with the

Joe Moreira:
truck I want to get

Chad Kintzer:
now you got 20 people here want to go? Yup. Yup.

Joe Moreira:
listen first of all y’all have never been in the cold So I mean, it really be cool to see you guys doing

Chad Kintzer:
ready to rock my family’s from New York state I’m ready to ride baby

Joe Moreira:
in PA so I’m you know the coal to I mean, I’m down. Let me, let me go.

Chad Kintzer:
I’ll go snowmobile Next thing you know there’s going to be 60 equipment managers riding around in the snow. So some other things I think is worth mentioning, um, is about T tech. If you join T tech. Scholarship fund. There’s a

Trent Manning:
scholarship

Chad Kintzer:
for you signed you, sign whoever, you know, your kid or whatever, um, to receive. I think it’s like a thousand dollars for the scholarship fund That’s awesome dude. It’s what No it’s a

Trent Manning:
house I’m pretty sure they said a thousand

Chad Kintzer:
I’m pretty sure it’s a thousand I thought I heard 1,082 Yeah I’m pretty sure it’s a thousand Um if it’s a thousand dollars, um, No, no, no, no. There’s, there’s also a turf in need. Um, um, that was up to four fund and that was up to four grand right now. Um, and, uh, there’s also, um, so, and speaking of that turf and need, we’ve helped already a couple of guys, um, with, you know, situations that they’re in, that they can’t, you know, get, get something they need, they need help. They need something. T tax there. Um, so yeah. What else did they do? We do, it’s a turf tech need the check in need, scholarship turf tech the bill Ledford turf tech of the year. Let us lead buddy, buddy. You know That was the awesome That was awesome

Joe Moreira:
almost brought a tear

Chad Kintzer:
dude No no joke, man. Bill when I got to when I got to talks away, we had all Jake and bill was my guy. I was so happy to have him as my, as my guide, my tech to come and help me So it was it was, but bill, bill was awesome, man. He is awesome. I will say I’m obviously from Florida too. And I took a trip with mark Pilger and uh, I met old led buddy. They were at a Berkeley hall, never met the guy in my life and I’ve certainly said this about a few people. Tim Krieger was one of them fed Thompson’s another one. And then old led buddy, you feel like you’ve known him for like 30 years in a second. Um, and he’s one of those guys. And so even I’m standing in the back of the conference during the day and they’re doing this for lead and he’s talking about it and I’m, I’m sitting there like, dude, what the hell? I’m starting to get choked up myself. Yeah. And I’ve only met the guy literally for like 90 seconds of my entire life. So that was really, really, they did, man. He, he go, he went always for anybody I’ve talked to, went above and beyond. Yeah. It’s literally what I was telling you in my podcast. It’s what I hope to be for someone, you know, later later there to be, to be there for, for the guy that’s like me

Trent Manning:
coming

Chad Kintzer:
from Florida and stuff like that. So it’s

Trent Manning:
awesome

Chad Kintzer:
