Welcome to the 2022 real turf techs rapt. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you to each and every one of you. For all your support. Since we first started and thank you for helping each other out. I’m so proud of where this community is. And it’s really unbelievable to me how far we have came. And I can’t wait to see how far we go. I’m thankful for all the places I got to visit. All the people I got to meet. Because of the Reel Turf Techs community. To recap a little bit of what happened this last year. I was lucky enough to go to the new England turf grass comp. Um, France and Providence. And take an epic Northeast. Road trip. That ended with a great time. Hanging out with my good friend, J R Wilson. Jr. Wilson is one of the first people I’ve ever really opened up to about my anxiety. And it was so good to have some one you respect like Jr. To understand what you’re going through. And he also shared some of the challenges that he’s had through life. And. That makes me feel really good too. I’ll talk more about this later. Shout out to Rob Campbell. That I met up at new England. Conference. For telling me about the bridge tunnel. That was one of the most amazing things I’ve ever done. And it’s a little over 17 miles and it’s mainly a bridge, but there’s two tunnels. Oh, it was, I mean, I hit it right at sunset. It was really, really incredible. I got down to the golf industry show in San Diego. It was awesome being together. I had an in-person show after we didn’t have one. In 2021. Always love putting faces with Twitter handles. Shout out to Jay dot. Frank McWiggin. Got to meet some of y’all for the first time in person. And then the summer, it was a little harder and busier than I really remember it being. And after talking to a lot of you. I think we all kind of struggled this summer. I don’t know. The weather wasn’t that bad. I’m not sure what it was. But the good thing we have this community here. And we got each other’s back. And sometimes you just need to reach out and. Listen to somebody else and some of their struggles. And it’s great that that community has gave us that. And then in October, I got on the road with my good friend Howard Horne. Which he’s a fellow mechanic too. And we went and seen wheel at a lotion club. And little rock Arkansas, amazing property. And then we went out and seen Tony at Trinity forest. And we made a new friend, Bob Smith at PGA fresco. And that time. Spinning it with Howard and meeting these other guys too. Just incredible. I couldn’t ah, Couldn’t try that. Definitely a trip of the lifetime. And then I followed that up. Go on to Wisconsin. And hanging out with Justin Prescott. Hanging out with Austin, right? Doing a tour of the Foley factory. Spending a day with Chad Bron. Over at Toro. With Jeff Drake. I mean. I don’t know is luck. The, the, the stuff can’t get any better. And somehow it seems like it does. This truly incredible places I’ve seen. And people I’ve got to meet and spend time with. And then in November, I went to the Carolina show. I love seeing all my peeps there. I didn’t have peeps there until 2021. That was my first trip up there. Got to hang out with Chad cancer, Joe Mariah. Jake Teeter. Brian Aplin Kayla KIPP. Mike Rawlins, of course. No Dwayne grinds appearances. Unfortunately. And y’all make me feel so welcome. Like I’ve been coming for years and years and years. And unfortunately our good friend bill Ledford was not able to make it due to some health conditions. I had dinner with gassy Brianna and my LOL Brian Aplin some of their marketing guys, Andrew Miller was there and hopefully we’re going to do a little podcast CoLab. Sometime in 2023. So I’m super stoked about that. And more on a personal note, 2022. Was a little bit different for me. This is a different year. I took more time for myself than I ever have. I’ve always been work, work, work. Family family work. But a lot of work in there. And a lot of family, never really any time just for myself. And I think this year, I was, you know, one of the things going to Texas with Howard and going up to Wisconsin and doing these trips. And like the first trip going up and seeing Jr. That was one thing that really. Really got my energy going and something I really enjoyed doing and something I knew I needed to do more of. And not just to give back to the community. And highlight all these other people. But it’s really good for me as a person. And I think we all have different seasons of life. And that’s where I’m at right now. So I’m definitely focusing more on myself. More on my family. Probably a little bit less on my career. Some of the stuff I did was more noticeable to others. Like taking more trips. Visiting shops. Meet more technicians. It was noticeable to my kids. Uh, definitely, uh, I have turned a corner with them. Not that we had a bad relationship. But our relationships a whole lot stronger now. And I think a lot of that’s due to taking some time out for me. Some of the stuff I’d done was a very personal. And I want to take a minute and kind of share a little bit of my background. I grew up with an alcoholic father. And I had plenty, a dramatic event in my childhood. Growing up and I thought it was normal. Uh, dealt with depression. Thoughts of suicide. And I thought that was normal. Part of a young adults life. But I didn’t have anything to relate it to. So as I got older, I struggled with anxiety and it kept getting worse and worse. And I finally got to a point that. I had to go. Seek professional help. And get medicated. For my anxiety. Cause a count to a point where I couldn’t handle it anymore. And then some, uh, I come across this summer. Was adult children’s of alcoholic. ACA. And I started going to that and. August. And it’s really changed my life being around these other people that grew up in a alcoholic. Or a dysfunctional family. And hearing their stories. I’m so thankful for each one of them. That I’ve met in there and each one, the shares are story. And I just. It lets me know I’m not alone. And I wasn’t the only one that. Grew up in a. In a bad childhood. And when I say. A rough childhood. Uh, you know, I didn’t want for a whole lot. I didn’t think and material things. But. I grew up with a lot of abuse. And neglect. And I didn’t realize how that had effect on me. Until. I started going to this class. If you want to know more about ACA. Check them out online. And it’s not just for adult children’s of alcoholics, but also any kind of dysfunction in your family growing up. I can’t believe I’m getting ready to start. The third year. Hosting the real turf tax podcast. When I started back in 2021. I hoped. 10 people would listen. And maybe. We could help somebody. And when I look at the stats today, We’ve had. 30,551 downloads. And we’ve published a hundred episodes. I never dreamed it would turn into this. But I’m so thankful that it has. And 2022. I finally got around to a big goal of mine, and that was launching the real turf techs. Website. The sum, the had been on the plan since day one. But I hadn’t really had time and I still hadn’t had time. But I paid somebody to do it. And that’s why we got our website now. And if you have any ideas for the website, you want to see anything on there. Let me know. And then 2023. I plan on doing a lot more videos for the real turf text or YouTube channel. So make sure you check it out. Please subscribe. Block our videos. And if you have something. Good to say, leave it in the comments. You got something bad to say, send me an email. I want to give a big, thank you. The Foley currently G C I. For supporting us. An ASB task tracker for their continued support as well. I love task tracker is always making improvements to their platform. And I can’t thank these companies enough for support and technicians around the world. Truly incredible. And I couldn’t do it without y’all. Looking ahead in 2023. You can find me teaching. At the Michigan turf grass. Foundation next month. January 10th and 11th. And then in Georgia, we’ll be having our EDM seminar, January 23rd. We’ve got Chad Braun coming down. So excited about that. It’s going to be awesome to have him in the ATL and drive him around to some different courses while he’s in the area. I’m stoked. And then I’ll be at the GCSA conference and show. February 6th and seventh in Orlando. I’ll be hosting a yam round table. That’s a free power hour. Please be there. And then I’ll be doing tips and tricks with Austin rock. I’ll also be celebrating the achievement for everyone who gained their Um, certification. On Thursday morning. At 1115. On the GCs, a T V stage. So please join me. And giving a hand to the first ever class. Uh, certified turf equipment managers. Super exciting time. Later in February, I’ll be at the Canadian golf course management conference and Vancouver. February 22nd through the 24th. So for all my Canadian peeps, I know I got a lot of listeners up in, up in Canada, up in Canada. I would love to see you there and meet you in person. And I’ll try to have some stickers on hand too. And last but not least. I don’t know exactly. I signed up for this, like in the summertime and I thought it’d be a good idea. To go to North Dakota, March 2nd. So if you’re up in North Dakota, And you want to come see me? I’ll be speaking at the north central turf grass association in North Dakota. And to wrap this all up. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you again. Thank you to all the guests. Thank you to all the listeners. Thank you for the sponsors. Thank you for the friends I’ve made. Thank you to everybody I’ve met. And if you’ve thought about being a guest on the podcast, Just do it. Send me an email or a DM. Talk to somebody I know. You can get ahold of me. I would love to have you on. And it doesn’t matter how long you’ve been in the business. I just want to share your story. And I want to shine a lot on all of us. So I wish you all the best. And 2023. See you. Bye.
